manual magic that brings balance to your body

We humans are complex beings and face microscopic trauma or bigger traumas daily. Maybe it’s missing a step going down the stairs, falling really hard on your butt while snowboarding or having some acid reflux you can’t seem to shake.

Osteopathy is a modality of bodywork that can treat and prevent a variety of dysfunctions in your body: whether acute or chronic. By working with the interrelated systems and functions of the body, osteopathy can return the body to normal health so it can self-heal and self-regulate.

Our osteopaths use a personalized mix of approaches (ie. cranial, visceral, musculoskeletal, lymphatic, vascular, etc.) and work with the body's fascia (the connected tissue in your body that holds us together!) to find restrictions and reestablish mobility.

Techniques include gentle osteo-articular mobilizations, myofascial release, neurokinetic therapy (NKT - reprogramming of muscle compensations), anatomy in motion (AiM) exercises, visceral manipulation, cranial sacral therapy, intra-oral osteopathic techniques, cupping and K-taping.

FAQ

If you have any questions about osteopathy, please use our chat box, or contact us.

During the first appointment, a big portion will be spent talking about your chief complaint (aka what hurts!) and some general health questions covering things such as trauma and medical history as well as other day-to-day things like your digestion. All of this is super important because we get to know you top to bottom – not just your pain! The session continues with a body assessment to find the areas that need some TLC in regards to what we discussed. Once a plan is established, you will receive hands-on treatment for the reminder of the session. Follow-ups include a quick check-in at the beginning and hands-on manual therapy for the rest of the session!

Osteopathy is a very gentle approach! Clients often comment they don’t feel much during the session but the results are incredible (trust us!) Some techniques or areas can be a bit more sensitive for you depending on your pain tolerance, but we’re always happy to adjust accordingly - we’re here to work with you! So let us know what you’re feeling!

Everybody responds differently to manual therapy, but the classic feeling after an osteopathy session is “feeling a little loopy” or “lighter”.

The biggest difference is most Osteopaths don’t manipulate like chiropractors do and they include the visceral sphere (the fascias of your abdomen and around some of your organs) in their clinical assessment.

Absolutely! Every different modality of manual therapy comes together for a multidisciplinary approach. One person can’t do everything! At wellbe, we have a circle of care - each practitioner that you see at wellbe helps in their unique way with one solid goal - helping you feel better!

Cranial Osteopathy is one of the many approaches that can be included in your treatment. It can be super gentle (where the practitioner focuses on the rhythm of the cerebral spinal fluid) or it can be a little more vigorous to work on the dynamic between different bones. Cranial bones are connected by sutures and have pivot points that should allow some pliability or capacity to adapt under pressure.

Osteopaths can be a great addition to your fertility team. A lot of fascia is located in your abdomen and your organs don’t just float inside your body - gravity is a thing! Through visceral techniques in your pelvic sphere, osteopathy can free up some restrictions in the connective tissue surrounding your uterus and ovaries. Additionally, some cranial techniques can help bring equilibrium to your nervous system and around structures playing a crucial role in your endocrine system (your hormones!).

Definitely! Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths work differently and their approach complements each other. They actually make a great team to help you along your wellness journey!
